A sweet necklace perfectly depicting the Tauhou in etched sterling silver, sitting upon a branch of Mānuka, cleverly cast in sterling silver from an original Tania Mallow carving, finished with a sterling silver chain and clasp.
The universally adored Waxeye or Silvereye is a self introduced New Zealand bird also known as Tauhou (stranger or new arrival). They were first spotted in New Zealand in 1832 having flown to New Zealand from Australia. Though self introduced they are certainly counted as one of our bird treasures here in Aotearoa.
The tiny sweet characteristics of the Tauhou are skillfully carved in tiny detail by Tania Mallow. It’s chubby little tum is rounded off and is one of Tania’s most petite necklaces in her collection.
The bird range has a beautiful weighty feel. Like many of Tania Mallow's other pieces they are created with comfort and quality at the forefront. Materials are not spared on her jewellery and wearing them feels amazing. This necklace is enhanced by a skillful oxidization technique which brings the carved lines to life.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver. The alloy composition results in a metal that is very durable and long lasting. Sterling silver is easily polished using a polishing cloth. Tania Mallow jewellery is certified sterling silver.
