A stunning disc necklace featuring a series of korus cleverly cast in sterling silver from an original Tania Mallow carving, finished with a sterling silver chain and clasp.
The Koru is at the foundation of all traditional Maori carving and art here in Aotearoa. It is a cleverly stylized representation of the unfurling fern frond which represents new life, strength and growth. Tania’s relationship with native New Zealand bush is encapsulated in her Koru range. The fern frond peppers our native bush with its soft curls and spirals. To walk in Aotearoa’s native bush is to know the fern frond inside out.
Tania has paid tribute to the original style of the Koru by celebrating its perfect form. In this piece she brings all the attention to that symbolic spiral flowing with movement. She cleverly creates this movement by skillfully carving a series of korus in to the slightly domed disc. The play of light between the indent and the surface shimmer beautifully.
This necklace has a beautiful light feel. Like many of Tania Mallow's other pieces it is created with comfort and quality at the forefront. Materials are not spared on her jewellery and wearing them feels amazing.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver. The alloy composition results in a metal that is very durable and long lasting. Sterling silver is easily polished using a polishing cloth. Tania Mallow jewellery is certified sterling silver.
